I was completely unfamiliar with the area, and apparently I had come to the wrong path.

問題文僕はその土地に全く不案内で、どうやら道を間違ったらしかった。

I was unfamiliar with the land at all and went the wrong way.

“at all” has been removed as it doesn’t make grammatically sense in this sentence and is not needed anyway. Just saying that you’re “unfamiliar with the land” is enough.
Regarding the defference between “went the wrong way” and “came the wrong way”, to be honest, “came the wrong way” would not be used in this context. It simply isn’t natural. In both cases, where the speaker is travelling to or already at the destination, “went the wrong way” would make the most sense. The other expression is “gone the wrong way”, which pretty much means the same as “went the wrong way”.
