・こっそりと：discreetly, secretly

The food seemed to be too hard for the old woman’s teeth, so she put it back onto the plate secretly without letting it be seen by others.

ネイティブからのアドバイス

That is grammatically correct. However, we are more likely to use the active voice and say “without letting the others see it.” Alternatively, you can say “hoping nobody noticed.”
“Discreetly” is another appropriate word to use instead of “secretly” and “elderly” is a word we typically use instead of “old” because it is more politically correct.
