ネイティブからのアドバイス

This sentence has good elements, but it’s missing “to see” and some words aren’t natural.

  • First, “to get out of” a place means to escape. It’s not the right meaning for this sentence. The verb “leave” just means to go away from. It’s a transitive verb, so it needs an object to complete its meaning. “My house” is the object of “leave.”
  • Within the context of this sentence, “looked” and “looked around” have the same meaning, but “looked around” adds an extra word that is unnecessary. You can also write “I left my house and looked around for my cat on every street.” This sentence is more concise and has the same meaning as the original sentence.
  • The last part of the sentence is an adverb phrase. If we were to use all of the words that the phrase should have, it would be “in order to see whether my cat was there.” “In order to + verb” always indicates an adverb phrase. “To see” means to use one’s eyes. The verbs “left” and “was” are in the past tense because the action was in the past when you wrote this sentence. You had already “left” your house to see if my cat “was” there.

色々あるなぁ。。
